"The Infamous" is the second studio album by hip hop duo MOBB DEEP, originally released in 1995.
Joining the band as guests are NAS and WU-TANG members RAEKWON and GHOSTFACE KILLAH. The album marked MOBB DEEP's transition from a relatively unknown rap duo to an influential and commercially successful act.
One of the landmarks of the New York Hardcore movement, "The Infamous" is MOBB DEEP's masterpiece, a relentlessly minimalist song cycle that fans hold up as one of the most real gangsta albums of all time.
This is hard hip hop from the underground, which has its own rules and has few melodic hooks as access for the listener.
At the same time, MOBB DEEP provide little solace with the images of the street they conjure up here.
They inhabit a theatre of war where violence and paranoia lurk around every corner.
The product of an unusual artistic vision, "The Infamous" is an absolute gangsta/hardcore classic.
