Mysticisms keeps the Dubplate series moving, welcoming one of the seminal Dub producers of all time in Scientist. His unique studio techniques and understanding of rhythm are exalted and present on Step It Up, a enlightening example of his genius and matched with a widescreen remix by label associate DJ Normal 4 aka DJN4, teaming up with fellow Dusseldorf producer AKI AKI, to offer a dreamland breaks-steppers anthem. The fact that Hopeton Overton Brown aka Scientist is one of the true pioneers of Dub music is undisputed. His productions, first as an apprentice at Studio One, then breaking through whilst teamed at King Tubby’s studio, led to Channel One and a series of seminal Dub masterpieces throughout the 1980s, mixing engineer Henry ‘Junjo’ Lawes’ productions with the Roots Radics, alongside vocalists Barrington Levy, Jonny Osbourne and Jah Thomas.Step It Up precedes, taken from the period of seminal Tubby’s work with Bunny Lee’s house band, The Aggrovators. As often with Reggae’s history, much is disputed, however, this unmistakable Scientist production showcases Brown’s high pass filters in effect, the trademark riding 4/4 – 4 track – mixing desk, a joyous bounce.Working on the license from the outset, Tim Schumacher aka DJN4, waited in the wings to dive in the desk for a modern-day remix. Partnering with up-and-coming producer Aki Vierboom (Phaserboys / Candomble), the Digi-Dance MixX is bass-quaking histrionics, a steppers meets rave culture overdose that will be heard from festivals to dancehalls, a righteous dub-breaks riddim y’all.
Brand new label "Retro Future Space Agency" from the stables of For Those That Knoe is kicked off by Snad, the cosmic tech house wizard. Featuring eight tracks of chi-town swagger and a sprinkle of star dust, the Intergalactic Gambler rockets into a solar system near you early 2023; but be quick, he's surely to leave with all the chips faster than you knoe it.
Legendary minimal - and acid house before that - pioneer Baby Ford very much set the blueprint for the genre back in the late 90s, both solo and with The Ifach Collective, who featured Ian Loveday, Mark Broom and Thomas Melchior (amongst others). Now they are reminding us of the greatness of that work with the first in a series of reissues coming in 2023. These tunes were originally put out back on the legendary Klang Elektronik in 2000. First up is 'Tea Party' by Eon, M-Core, and Baby Ford, an ice-cold rolling dub. 'On The Floor' with Mark Broom gets more percussive and then comes a solo cut from Baby Ford, 'The Healing' which is as heady as can be and finally 'Word For Word' featuring Cheru Amadi layers up slithers of silvery percussion and cuddly bass into dubbed-out tech heaven.
Biz returns with another ep of seriously smooth Detroit inspired techno and body poppin electro that take the listener on a cerebral journey while still being laced with those tough elements that work so effectively on the dancefloor. This is the fourteenth release on Biz’s own label cliq which was founded in 2002 and is a reminder that Australian techno is smokin…don’t miss this future classic!!
